Sweet Soul Burlesque is Western Canada's longest running professional neo-burlesque troupe. Founded in 2003 out of a passion for the genuine DIY pin-up grrl culture, Sweet Soul strives to raise the bar by creating ground-breaking burlesque of unequaled production value. From ribbon staffs to giant venus fly traps to fire tricks to life-sized jack-in-the boxes, each Sweet Soul dancer has spent years individually crafting her own persona and performance style. Get ready for a vibrant mash-up of classic striptease with elements of hiphop, underground dance culture and punk rock.
Sweet Soul Burlesque has been featured in the Globe and Mail, CBC Television and Radio, Fashion TV, MuchMusic and MTV and has appeared at hundreds of events and festivals across the continent, from Basscoast & Shambhala to the New York Burlesque Festival. In 2010 they were honoured with a nomination for World’s Best Troupe at the International Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas.
Since the closing of their beloved Dollhouse Studios in 2010, the Sweet Soul ladies have been thrilled to take their show on the road, spreading sass worldwide with performances and workshops. In addition to their travels they continue to appear at the Keefer Bar in Vancouver every Thursday night for Sweet Sip Thursdays – Sweet Soul Burlesque at The Keefer.
